Security operatives have rescued nine children abducted from St. John Catholic Church in Ojije, Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The abduction had sparked outrage in the community, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement.
Governor Hyacinth Alia commended security agencies for their swift and coordinated efforts that led to the safe recovery of the children. He highlighted the collaboration between conventional security forces and local vigilante groups, noting that the joint effort was instrumental in ensuring the victims’ safe return.
Alia emphasized that security is fundamental to development and reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with federal security agencies, community leaders, traditional institutions, and local security outfits.
“The goal is to guarantee that residents live without fear and that Benue remains a land of peace, justice, and coexistence,” the governor said, praising the teamwork that led to the successful rescue operation.
Officials added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent future incidents. Community leaders also lauded the rapid response, describing it as a reassurance of the government’s dedication to protecting citizens.
